When I saw a discount for bookings.com, I decided to find a place to have a vacation. I found
New Orleans but did not end up booking a hotel on the website. Instead, I ended up getting a hotel room at Astor Crowne Plaza in French Quarter. The hotel is a short walk away from most of the tourist attractions. I brought my older sister on this trip. She took some of the pictures in this blog post. Since we arrived in new Orleans earlier than the check-in time, we got food at Acme Oyster House, which is less then 5 minutes walk away from our hotel.
There was a line outside the restaurant but we did not wait long at all before being ushered in. The gumbo in the picture is the bowl-sized one, which costs about $7+. It was delicious and only having a cup of the gumbo would not be enough for an adult serving. The cheese and butter made the charbroiled oysters absolutely delicious. The charbroiled oysters were $11.99 for 6, which could serve 2 adults.
The next food place to check out is Cafe Du Monde. Many bloggers and travelers who have been to New Orleans would also recommend this cafe. It is a huge tourist attraction and if you go there about 9 am on weekends, there will be a long line. However, the line moves pretty fast. Keep in mind that the place only takes cash. During this whole 4-day trip, we went to Cafe Du Monde about 2 or 3 times. Every time, we get at least 1 serving of beignet. 1 serving is 3 square, pillow-looking fried "doughs". As you can see, the address of this cafe is in the picture below:
The small cafe au lait is $3.79 each and each serving of beignets runs at $3.99. The 3 beignets could fill 2 adults easily. The beignets were crisp on the outside and light on the inside. The powdered sugar flies in your face and makes a mess. But, the beignets' goodness is worth the mess and stickiness. #placeToFrequent
The word beignet means fritter/donut in French.
For a change, we went to a cute cafe with cute interior design: Cafe Beignet. We prefer Cafe Du Monde's coffee and beignets. The seating at this cafe is also more limited during breakfast time. My sister and I only went to this cafe once during our trip. Both cafes are on the same street.
Both cafes also serve cafe au lait and beignet. It is a New Orleans tradition to have both of them together. They add chicory into their coffee. That is what makes the coffee different. You would have to taste it when you go to New Orleans yourself. Stay tuned for more New Orleans foodie finds.
